Hi Members,

Earlier this year with the help of a couple members (thanks!) I built a SAC rig and have been using it all of this season with pretty good results.
Now I am becoming involved in a small local community studio project and have convinced the owner to upgrade the pc and possibly move to SAW. Currently he's using Samplitude ver 6 but his older dell pc is just not happy. We've tried to integrate a phonic helix 24 mkII with no joy (not my choice) - just can't get the firewire to work.
I want to build another machine for him and have a few questions-
Are the requirements for the SAW machine the same as SAC?
I used win 7 hp in the SAC machine and that seems to run fine - is this ok for SAW? Should I go with 64 bit? Anyone know of a good source for rack cases(chassis) and quiet fans?(we may just use a tower))
In the event I convince him to use SAW we'll most likely go with SAW lite. No need for more than 32 ch. Are the ADA's suitable or too noisy/crappy?
Is there a way to use his existing Samplitude files in SAW? He doesn't want to lose them and several projects are unfinished.
Thanks in advance!

I used saw and the Ada's on our band demo.. www.facebook.com/formerrockgods (http://www.facebook.com/formerrockgods) if you want to see the cleanliness of the tracks from a live recording

Greg,
What does he have (CPU, interface, etc.) now? I still use my old dual PIII board with windows 2000 for running SAW on occasion.

SAW works on Win7. XP is still recommended by users. With all the appropriate tweaks for either, of course.

For a studio you'd probably want something quieter than the ADAs. Instead you may want to go with a separate A/D- Mic Pre combinations. Or if he already uses a board, an A/D fed from the board Pre's. There are any number of things that can be done depending on what is already in his studio.

Greg - if you decide to go with SAW, I have my SAW Lite license for sale. I may also be selling my four ADAs which are only about a year old. PM me if you're interested.

Quiet stuff I used in my recent i7 Sandy Bridge build:

case: Antec Solo (http://www.amazon.com/Antec-LifeStyle-Quiet-Mini-Tower-Piano/dp/B000FTTNIQ) -- $95
shipping (Amazon) -- free

PSU: Nexus NX-5000 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002R22O5S) -- $100
shipping (Amazon) -- $8

CPU heatsink/cooler: Scythe Grand Kama Cross (SCKC-2000) -- $35
shipping (aerocooler.com) -- $12

Replacment for stock case fan: Nexus Real Quiet Case Fan D12SL-12 120mm (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835610006) -- $12
shipping (Newegg) -- $2

I'm using Win7 x64 and SAW with no problems. Must do the SAC tweaks, of course.

I've used the ADA's on my remote rig (via an RME Digiface) and been very happy with them. But I've done no A/B-ing against other AD's.

If you want to see all the details on the system I built earlier this year (with much very appreciated help from the forum), go HERE (http://www.sawstudiouser.com/forums/showthread.php?p=152482&page=3). BTW... not sure if anyone else is doing this, but in an effort to save money and keep the noise down, I decided to forgo the use of a video card and use the Sandy Bridge CPU native video. Been running dual monitors this way and have no complaints at all.
