A beautiful space. I bet you have some stories about getting good sound in there.

Yes, it can be interesting. Over the years we've worked out that pretty much two speakers per pillar (one facing in, the other towards the aisle) works best. It doesn't really matter what the speaker coverage specs say, as soon as we use fewer, intelligibility goes down. There's an in house system which has the most beautiful bespoke control panel, but it sounds a bit like a telephone.

Years ago, I toured the Old Church in Delft on a visit to the Netherlands. The sound was incredible, not what I expected at all. They also used a couple speakers per pillar all at a respectable volume. There must have been some sort of compensating delay also as it is a very big church. :D

Oh yeah, you need delay. I'm using a behringer dcx, add 9 metres between each set of speakers. I have done the delays in sac before, if all depends on where my outputs arr in the building and how many monitor channels I need. It can sound superb. The rt60 time is very long though and low frequencies can do amazng things. A drum kit is often problematic.

I guess they use the Intellivox system:

Interesting. I didn't see that church on their installs list. I was there in early 2001. It would have been used at the airport at that time though. Strange, I don't remember too much of what it sounded like there.

I'm really curious to know which shade you're using in this photo...

Looks like Brett's "Grey" Shade if I'm not mistaken.

Yep, I've had it for quite a while. I think he re-worked it slightly from the version I'm running there.

It's a nice shade, but I'm going to switch to Bret's Mr Shade as I like the colour zoning.
