I have a mildly interesting war story about an old SVT head. Long ago I used to do electronic repairs as a primary source of income. A local player brought in an SVT head that he had found used. He had been playing with it in small clubs and said it was pretty good but he had thought it would have a little more power.

I put it on the bench and found it was putting out about 30 watts. I opened it up and found an obviously burned screen resistor. I replaced the resistor and checked the output. It was in the vicinity of 300 watts as advertised.

When the player picked it up I warned him to be careful because it would have a lot more soup than before. He later told me that he had been running it at about 8 on the dial. He took it to the club and set it up. Because of my caution he had cut the gain knob back to 2. He said he hit an open E and nearly knocked himself off the stage.
