Using SAW studio lite, does anyone know how to import stereo then separate into two mono tracks?

In MTview, stereo shows as two wavs on one track. Want left and right on separate tracks.

Or perhaps, there is an import stereo as mono option somewhere?

I think you would need to convert them to Left and Right mono files before you import them into Saw.....I use a program called AudioFinder....I'm sure there are a zillion out there for windows.

Yea, can do separation with my WavLab7. Just wishing for a one step approach.

Add the audio to two mixer channels. Set to mono at top of channel strip and select the Mono Option (L, R, L+R, etc).

Set one channel to left and one channel to right.

Couldn't that be done by selecting the track, pan it left, and use "Build mix to hottrack" and choose a mono file on mixdown? Theres the left channel.
Then repeat for the right.

Nope, you'd get both channels blended together into mono, out of one side.

Always good to test with Dusty Springfield, Son of a Preacher Man. In the intro - guitar on the left, and the bass. On the right - reverb of the guitar, very quiet, along with the organ.

I just tried a little section in the demo and it worked fine.

The stereo track is in track one.
Set track two for mono and pan left.
Set track three for mono and pan right.

Select track one (click and highlight the track number), pan it left, then set track two as the HotTrack.
Use Build Mix to HotTrack and select a mono file. Create mix.

With track one still selected pan it right and set track three as the HotTrack.
Use Build Mix to HotTrack and select a mono file. Create mix.

Now tracks two and three are the left and right channels.

Brett, apologies, I was unable to test here in the end.

Put the stereo track on two adjacent tracks... set the first to mono L only and the sceond to mono R only... now you have two mono tracks that can be panned anyway you want in the mix and processed separately without having to destroy the original stereo file or extract it into two separate files.

The mono L only will feed the left side to both L and R on the track as if it was a mono file already... etc.

Glad to hear, as I thought, that the L/R are kept separate despite panning on stereo tracks.

Just clicking the 'mono' button will not work.
unless you are sure (as Bob indicates) to first select the input source for that 'mono' to only be from the "left channel only" for mixdown to another track... and then from "right channel only" for mixdown to another track.
Then panning is optional... depending on where you want the audio in the separate L R mixdown tracks.
But as Bob says... (if you're doing the production in SS) you might as well split them virtually inside SawStudio.... rather than hassle with mixdowns, etc. For final production of files..Either way... you can group or latch the two faders to act as one.

Not really panning, but 'balancing', when it's a stereo source. Just like the balance control on your old receiver. :)
