I often use the H4n as a preamp for location recording to my laptop. I can monitor with headphones while recording the the SD card in the H4n, but can't figure out how to monitor if I'm recording to a USB connected external device.

Can someone please shine a light my way?

Thanks,
Bill

From the manual, page 34, H4n used as an Audio Interface:

To monitor input signals, you must turn the
<MONITOR> setting on.

Looks like this is in the USB Audio I/F menu.

HTH.

Looks great on paper, but I'm not able to monitor the input with headphones. It works great when I play it back tough from SAW. That's what baffles me. I might have to try to get in touch with ZOOM. Wanted to check here first.

Thanks Ian.

Actually I'm using SAW.
I'll try tape style monitoring.
Good call. I was trying to find something on the H4.

Thank you Sebastian.
