Hi Bob,
Just was surfing on the net, and have found several interresting and maybe promising Processor/ DSP developments.
One of them is the CELL developed by IBM/SONY/Toshiba and it has a power of around 250GFLOPS or GOPS(integer) while consuption is only around 80W.They also can be used in a "network" to get even mutch more power)
There should be some PC like computers comming out from IBM with this CPU, But I don't know if it will run Windows or not...
They have great memory and I/O bus Bandwiths as well, so I was thinking, if it is reasonable to implement DAW softwares in the future for such powerfull DSP systems becouse now we have PCI express with great Bandwith as well and so it should be possible(?) to use the PC's CPU power just for '"control" the DSP card's functions and for user interface, graphic etc...( and for VST & DX plugins )
What do you think about it?
Cheers,
Tamas
