That made interesting reading, and seems to correlate well with what Stephen St Croix wrote in his column in mix magazine several years ago.
I myself keep two different "grades" of blanks handy. For everyday stuff that is just non-critical personal use, I grab whatever cheap off-the-shelf media I find, usually at Staples. For any serious archival or mastering application, I used the Kodak blanks until they became unavailable, then switched to the HHB CRR 74 Gold (at about $2 apiece).
I use a Plextor Premium for CD burning, partly because I like being able to run my own BLER tests (its interesting to see the variation of quality in CD's I get from different people, too).

As I'm getting a little more invloved in restoration / archival work now (more great uses for SAW...) its been very interesting reading through some of the papers @ RLG.
