Press Cntrl/Alt/Delete and check if any processes are running.
Recently, a friends' m/c had drwatson running in the background and stealing around 70% CPU time.

Good luck

Paul,

My guess is the auto-undo feature is having trouble writing to your disk efficiently... possibly your drives are not reaching UDMA mode.

Try turning OFF the Auto-Undo feature in the Options menu and see if the problem goes away... if so... that's what is happening.

Another possibility is that you have your undo path set to a network drive perhaps... or you are doing a session directly on a network drive with the undo path following the session path.

With Auto-Undo OFF, you can create undo files at any time you like by simply pressing the Snapshot key (*) and not have to be slowed down by the slow disk writes in auto-undo mode.

Better though would be to find out why the disk is slow and fix the problem. :)

You've probably checked to see how full the drive is. And how fragmented. One recent machine I had would slow to a crawl as the drive approached 3/4 full.
