What are the downsides to having Auto Record to Softedge selected in the Options menu?

As a one man band and doing lot's of punch in's it seems like a good way to go.

Not really any downsides... you can still adjust punch in splice points and the softedges will stay... Some like to maintain complete control of splices and softedges... as you may find each punch in may be served best with a different softedg value depending on the performance at that point.
