View Full Version : Digigram native USB interface with SAW?

I'd appreciate anyone's opinion on the new Digigram UAX220 USB interface for use with SAW. I've only got an old Pentium III laptop for SAW, which is fine, and I know a lot of you guys go for the RMW Cardbus interface, but the Digigram is 2in/2out + phones which is all I need (now that I've found an application which sounds good to mix in). The Digigram has no drivers - it appears as a native Windows device; is this likely to cause any latency or other problems?

Thanks

Dominic

$419? A little pricey, no? For what I *think* you're doing there are other options but then again I don't know anything about this product.

Well it's £430 here in the UK, so about $730. But the Multiface is £850 which is about $1400, so maybe that's irrelevant. I like the idea of a good set of A/D and D/A converters and no bits which I don't need like midi or cheap pre-amps. And it's not very big and requires no external power so I can cart it around.

The Windows USB driver will only do 16 bits I believe and it will not get you latency below 4 x 1024... at least on my tests... I would stay away from it.

Dominic - You could also check the Digiface, though Behringer ADA8000's are like hens teeth here in Australia at the moment.

What's with the ADA8000 thing round here? Aren't they rubbish? They are really cheap compared with every other 8 channel mic pre. In the UK, ADA8000s are £130, the RME Quad mic is £300 and the Mackie Onyx is £1000. Do you guys use them for serious work?

Dominic - yes - a lot of people here do just that.

Go to www.LonBronson.com (http://www.LonBronson.com) and check out my live CD from the Golden Nugget... listen to "What is Hip" for an idea of what the Behringers can do... they are probaly the best audio value on the market in my opinion.

That project was 35 tracks of live stage splits direct to Behringer ADA8000 mic ins and to RME DigiFace boxes in 2 laptops linked with my TCP/ip Master/Slave option... pretty fun demonstration of the possibilities. :)
