A good friend of mine used to play bass for Billy. He always said that Billy was a great man to play for, one of his favorites... I have heard many a story from him. Sad to see him gone. "you are so beautiful"...

Damn - and so young too.
Anyone cool enough for Miles Davis to have actually titled a song with their name is cool enough for me!

Best regards,
Steve Berson

He was the opening act for a few shows on a concert tour I worked on many years ago. Before his sound check, he came out and introduced himself and his sound man to the crew, an unusual occurance.

He was a very kind and personable man, and a great musician. May he rest in peace.

From wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Preston) :

Miles Davis titled a song "Billy Preston" in his honour.

I remember riding in the car as a kid with my mom and getting so excited when "Nothing From Nothing" came on the radio. Then, years later, he did "With You I'm Born Again" with Syreeta, and I found it so beautiful it actually would bring tears to my eyes. And of course the classic "You Are So Beautiful" is unforgettable.

An enormous talent who left us too soon.

His playing on the Beatles Let It Be was so cool.
Get Back and Don't Let Me Down.... two of my favorites.

I just watched The Concert For George Harrison the other day and thought it was so cool that all those guys could put on such a great show - Billy as always did some cool organ work.
I will miss him - may he rest in peace!

I just watched "St. Louis Blues" today (recorded off cable a month or so ago, but never had time to watch) and realized that Billy Preston plays the young boy, W.C. Handy... Timely coincidence.

Very sad. Great memories of his music. "Outta Space" and "Space Race" really showed his keyboard chops. "Will It Go Round..." and "Nothin' from Nothin'" bring great associations of my younger days for me.

Saw him play in Ringo's first All Star tour, where he did one or two of those hits.

(Sidebar: at that show Joe Walsh did a stunning version of "Desperado" -- accompanying himself on PIANO.)
