I have just purchased a new mini keyboard to save space and I have found that the + and - keys do not result in a zoom in or out function. To do this, I have to use the mouse. The keyboard does not have separate number keys. Saw recognises the + and - keys when used in a name field. I have constantly use the + and - keys for zooming so is this fixable or just a consequence of using this type of keyboard.

Laptops are often this way too. Not that the keys don't work, you just don't have that separate NumPad.

Really though, I've found it much faster to use the mousewheel. I haven't used +/- in years, and have NEVER used the onscreen buttons. You can FLY with the mousewheel.
