I've got an old Roland TD6 V-drum set - sounds just like this - horrible. And horrible to play too, and I'm not even a drummer. Soulless electronica.

Just my not very humble opinion.

Midi triggered drums or "virtual" drums have been around for some time already, complete with hi-hat & cymbals

Had one with double kicks and the rest using R-8's and PM16's inividual comp/limiters verbs the works but was never really happy with the sounds mainly cymbals which seemed as a repeated decay kind of sound "Poop" is the best way to describe it. Also I always blew out my elbows since the triggered pads don't give like a normal kit would they where big in the 80's for special effects and I'm sure sme bands still use them for that now, I saw Future man with Bella Fleck and the Flecttones triggering various sounds with a kit and hand held keyboard, seemed to work for him.

All the Best:D
