Hello.
I have a setup with one hdsp9652 card and 3 Alesis AI3's.
I'm not happy with the signal to noise level from the AI3's.
As inputs they are fine, but when monitoring I want a better solution.
I usually mix inside Saw or totalmix, so most of the time I
only need two or four outputs.

Would I benefitt substantially using the AEB4-O for my mix outputs?
One thing that puzzles me is that they are inside the computer. This is
usually not a good thing when it comes to noise.

Will I be able to use all the three AI3's and the AEB4-o simultaneously?

And there were silence.

That's what I want from my soundcard when stopping Saw. Not from the newsgroup.
;)

Not any of you that are using the AEB4-O extension card out there?
 :o :)

I don't think many people are using either the AI3 or the RME extension card so they don't have an opinion.

If specs are important to you, then the RME card has better S/N specs based on what I can find on the Internet.

You may consider the RME ADI series converters for better connectivity, increased flexibility or higher sample rates.

I think that the idea of bad things happening when a card is inside the computer has pretty much been disproved by RME and all their fine products. I don't think it's an issue anymore.

I don't know what an AI3 is so can't help you there.

Are you troubled by actual bad results..noisy files? Or is it just for monitoring your mixes? How does this s/n issue manifest itself?

Might be an issue for the RME board too.

I agree. I have RME 9632 and LynxOne cards. Noise is NOT an issue.

I don't have the AEB4-O, though at one time I did look at the possibility.

I'd be pretty certain the AEB4-O will give you the results you want.

Hi Bj***246;rn, I have the HDSP9652, and AEB8-O (8 unbalanced as opposed to the AEBO-4, which is 4 balanced). I use it for headphone sends to the musicians. For that purpose, it's good enough. Haven't tried the AI3, but I would be a little surprised if the AEB was that much better... there should be newer, better, and not so much more expensive solutions these days? at least if you don't need 8 channels?

Also, do you have the 20-bit or 24-bit version of AI3? How does the rest of your chain look like? Are you sure that the noise is coming from the AI3?

Will I be able to use all the three AI3's and the AEB4-o simultaneously?

No. The AEB card connects internally to the hdsp9652, and steals the first ADAT port.
