Is there any way to measure the db of my recording? I have a client that wants audio at NO MORE than 6db??? How can I tell?

Thanks for your reply.

Is it VU or Peak they are looking for. A good meter for VU is made by a company called PSP

I think it's the peak they're asking about.

First,
I am guessing you mean -6db. On the digital scale, the highest is zero. Saw allows you to set meters to have an infinite hold of the peaks so you can view how far you are going.

The SAWPro native fx suite "SAW Utility Pack" from Kelly Industries (formerly Sonic Engineering) includes a Meter Plugin that also gives a numerical peak reading. As one of the original beta testers for it I can state with confidence that it works very well - priced at $150 including a large SMPTE time readout, a Stereo Panner/tweaker, and an Aux Send/Return plugins besides the meters. http://www.kellyindustries.com/saw_util_pak.html

If you don't already have the SAW Pro Levelizer another brick wall peak limiter such as the Waves L1 or L2, Voxengo's Elephant, or Izotope's Ozone can be used to keep the level from going over your set threshold.

I will Second Steve on the Plugin Pak. I too was a Beta tester for that product and it worked VERY well.. I particularly liked the fact that i could choose only one meter display for mono tracks and they were very small so i could put a bunch on the screen at a time for monitoring.. You can stil actually use them with Sawstudio too if you use the JMS fx plugin..( Its free at www.jms-audioware.com (http://www.jms-audioware.com) ) Fx32 linker...

Just thought of another freeware plugin that will give you a numerical peak (and rms display too) - Elemental Audio's Inspector - awesome VST freeware -

Their Eq's are fantastic too for people who like the graphical interfaces :) Low CPU hit and very very flexible.
