Does anyone know if any of the converter applications work for transferring PT HD 7.x sessions into SAWStudio sessions?

Does anyone have any experience doing so?

afaik, nothing moves sessions from PT above 5.1, just export(?) as bwf of all tracks printed from the zero line (thats what we do here to move tracks between a few of us) it takes a we bit longer, but not that much more than making a brew.

Rail Rogut has an utility which can translate BWF timestamps into SAW regions. Info here:

Though this mostly details going from SS to PTools, the utility works in both directions.

More info about conversions here:

There is a way (which I don't remember clearly) of exporting each region in the PTools session as a BWF, and then using Rail's utility, you can create SS timestamped regions and do a group insert(from a library window with the modifier key that inserts at orginal timestamp), and they all go to the correct position on the timeline.

It's been a long time since I used this method, so the details are a bit fuzzy in my mind. But, it does work.

The big advantage of this method over the one file for each track beginning at zero method, is that you preserve the region info, including the region names.

Exporting to OMF, then converting in EDL Convert Pro is another possibility if Digitranslator is available on the PT system.

PT LE is good, too.

Yeah, I'm about to take that plunge myself. Have you had good success importing larger PTHD sessions into LE?

I also want to know! It is cheaper to buy a PT LE system than Digitranslator ...

My understanding is that tracks above LE's standard 36 are shown but are greyed out and won't play, but that the region information on them is accessible and can be slid to an active track. Adding the DV Toolkit (more than double the cost of an entry level LE system) gets you an additional 12 active tracks, Digitranslator, Vocalign and some other goodies.

Excellent ... I will get an Mbox.

Furthermore, can you open Pro Tools sessions with your Mbox disconnected and bounce/consolidate tracks? (I don't want to carry the Mbox thing along with my laptop just to run Pro Tools to bounce tracks).

I'm sorry to say I have not done anything at all with the program, yet. :(

Too much to do! Not enough time!

I don't think so. The hardware in a PT system acts like a dongle.

You can open HD sessions in LE - tracks above the track/voice limit are disabled. You can still consolidate and edit the unvoiced tracks - you just can't hear them unless you disable and enable voices.

Sean is correct, Pro Tools software won't function without the hardware hooked up.
