Dang! I bought the 6700 a little while ago and I've been too busy to build the unit yet! I'm working on it right now as a matter o' fact.

I am sorry, last time I was to early was that I needed 6 computers
to a show, I did know the coreduo was right around the cornor, but the sales
man said that he´s guess was about 2 month, but it only took 2 weeks, so now we have 6xP4 computers:rolleyes: .

This new cpu also need the new P33 or G33 chipset inorder to use
the higher bus speed.

But... when will the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 be in the $300 range? :)

The prices here in Denmark are between 300 and 375 dollers for a
E6850:eek: :D when translate Danish kroners to dollers.
That is more than half the price of a core2duo 2.9ghz extreme cpu.

The price of the Q6700 is supposed to drop in half in April, and I'm toying with the idea of building a new system for surround work in SAW and video work in Vegas, which apparently works well with the Q6700. I'm curious as to how your Q6700-based system has performed with SAW.

Been down THAT road!

I've learned to NEVER buy computer parts until I'm absolutely ready to build. :)

It's mostly built. I've done the tweaks, loaded most of the peripherals and some of the programs. It seems to run like a champ but I've not done any stress tests. I'll wait until I get it into the studio and really give it the what-for.

The main hold up was the Asus Motherboard, it wouldn't post so I brought it in for a replacement and it took a couple of months to get back. When it got here I was swamped with work and am finally getting some time to spend with it. 2 months will put a crimp in your style!

That should make a great SAWStudio rig. My core 2 duo is a bit older than yours even but it works so well I'm not even in the market for a faster processor right now. Maybe a bit later but these all really rock... truly. We're sort of in DAW heaven as it were right now.. finally. :)

Hard drives, memory, and CPU's are all fast and furious.. and cheap! :)

Good luck with it! Enjoy!

I got the E6850 in a Velocity Micro box in early December. Its a quick machine and I love the speed.

I agree, I've had one for 6 months now and is twice as powerful as my last CPU which was an AMD64 3500, even if SAW only uses one of the CPUs :)

When Edius are rendering a 1,5 hour show from timeline to a dvd, it takes about 35 min. until I have the dvd in my hand, both cpu´s are then running at 98-100%:D .

In my Sony dvd arkitect days this could take 4-5 hours on a 3 ghz P4.

But now it seems that the E6850 is history, I notice the new centrino zeon 3 ghz quad cpu´s with the 771 pins are selling for about 1100 dollers and the new asus 771 server boards for about 600 dollers and then there is room for 2 quad cpu  and 64 gb ram  .

SebastianAnd the prices will keep dropping. My E6850 DAW is only 6 months old and you can buy the component parts at a much cheaper price already

Thats why the best advice I got from IT guru on pc and server hardware was always buy to the maximum spec you can afford at the time you buy because the ability to upgrade at a future date - say 2 to 3 years out - is a pipe dream. The hardware and specs change so much over a short period now that upgrade hardware is difficult to buy and not worth it when compared with the latest and greatest available.
