View Full Version : Midi library view

I think it would be very useful to have a library view in MWS for instant selection/import or and perhaps audition of midi files.
Perhaps have way to select default audition output port and tempo? Also have the import options of the SS import window as well.
Just an idea, but I think it would be very, very useful thing to have. It would be great to audition premade drumclips or synth lines, or import pre-set controller data etc...

Interesting idea... but more complex than importing audio due to the midi routing and playback device being a major part of the actual sound of the midi data file.
I'll look into the idea.

Which part is more complex? The importing of the midi or the auditioning?

Well... to playback a midi file with multiple tracks, each track and sound patch and port must be assigned... not an easy automatic task... it takes a little effort in general to setup any midi file to playback on a system different from the one it was created on.

Hi, Bob -
Would it make sense to set up one or more "default devices" just for auditioning?
For example, if a user has a multimedia sound card installed and enabled, that could be used just for auditioning. Or, if HyperCanvas is installed, that could be used. Of course, you would need to create "default templates" for each...e.g., configuring the MIDI banks/channels, loading the VST plugin (pre-fader), setting the SoftSynth MIDI port...yes, I see how that could get a bit hairy. Also, as a result, the user should expect the MIDI file to sound different -- possibly VERY different -- during audition.
Something tells me you'll come up with an elegant, efficient solution, Bob.

Or perhaps just having a set of "audition" tracks, that all midi auditioning is played through. You could instantlly clone any track in the current MWS project or set it up in any particular way.
