Is there a limit to # of regions?

I couldn't help but wonder what happens if I get above region #999. I'm about half way there since I'm doing a lot of splitting and editing. Does this rip a hole in the space-time continuum?

Don't know if there's a limit, but it's not unusual for my projects to contain 4-5 thousand regions before I'm finished editing. The sky is still there, but sometimes the bottom threatens to drop out from under me.:)
