Please excuse if this is an exceptionally dumb question, but I'm trying to educate myself a little:

Instead of using Ethernet to run data (NOT signal!!) from an on-stage computer and preamps/converter setup out to a FOH computer, could you use a setup using MADI to run audio signal to FOH? Is there any kind of advantage or disadvantage to using MADI? What would you gain or lose? (Is this a dumb question??)

I'm asking because RME is showing a new, portable MADI device at Musikmesse: http://www.rme-audio.de/en_products_hdspe_madiface.php

I'm asking because RME is showing a new, portable MADI device at Musikmesse: http://www.rme-audio.de/en_products_hdspe_madiface.phpThere would be no disadvantage but it's the cost. With MADi, you would have to have trans and rec at all ends. If the Core is at FOH you would then have to get everything back to stage. Optic would be your mode of transport but, Ouch the cost.

I was thinking MADi at first, but if you can keep everything at the Core, the remotes would be a lot more useful. Granted there are some issue with cueing but Bob blew us out of the water with a very simple solution, PEM!http://www.sawstudiouser.com/forums/showpost.php?p=81540&postcount=21
Man that was too simple!

There were a lot of threads on the subject but came down to a core on stage and remotes everywhere else. like this..http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ejvanhornrlh/Ethersound/SACethernet.jpg
MADi could be done the same but 2 HDSP9652 and a bunch of ADA8000 would give you 48 channels in and out at less a cost.

Hap,
I really appreciate your block diagrams. Looking at the signal flow like that helps a lot to get a handle on the system. Mine, of course, will be different from yours, but the concepts are the same. Thanks.
