Way Off Topic, I know. But this is the best source of anything digital I know of!

I was looking for my speaker icon on the taskbar of my office computer ... gone. In the control pannel there was a check mark to show it. I had to uncheck it and recheck it to make it appear again. Hooray for little victories!

Also, for the past couple of days, I've noticed that the icon to dismount USB dirves was missing and have been using the explorer to eject the drives, hoping that had the same effect and didn't seem to be a problem. It's much faster to just click the taskbar though. Is there a way to get it back on there?

Sorry to get off topic.

Thanks,
Bill

That has been one of XP's "maladies" since day 1. The disapearing tray icons. It's also random. Get used to it

Are you sure your not hiding inactive icons on taskbar? That would do what you state.

Yeah, I'm hiding inactive icons, but clicking that little arrow shows them again ... usually. When the others are un-hidden, there's still no USB un-hitcher thingy.

I tried to restore defaults, nothing. Pedro may have it right but he didn't post a crying velvet Elvis or anything. WOT's up with that? :D

Pedro is God. :D

On the original topic, stuff like that usually scares me into backing up my HD :D, kind of like getting a blue "memory dump" screen.

Cheers,
Scott

Good idea Scott!
Thanks.

While we're in the realm...

Can anyone recommend a good "save your desktop icon arrangement" utility? I've been doing okay without one for a while, but I recently did a remote control from home thing, and the next day, the office computer desktop was a shambles.

Dave:

Try this. I've used it for several months now and it works well.

Thanks, Mike! I'll check it out! :)

Looks pretty elegant and minimalistic. I like that.
