I have an Antec Sonata case which is great, apart from the case fan noise.

Initially, I had a Gigabyte K8NNXP in it which was supposed to have system fan control but I could never get it working.

In the end I replaced it with the Asus P5K Pro which has an aux. program to adjust the system speed to the current load. This all works as stated except for the case fan which still won't slow down even when the system is idling.

The fan is a 3 wire which, AFAIK, should be controllable by the M/B.

Does anyone know anything about this area?

Thanks

Sometimes these fan options must be setup in the motherboard bios...

But... I have lately been using case fans that have a small 3 position dip switch on them and the slow and middle speed are pretty quiet.

Thanks Bob - I'm sure I checked all the BIOS settings but I'll look again.

Is your fan a 3 wire or 4 wire?

Antec makes the fans... 3 speed fans... they come with a few different power connector adaptors... also in different LED color lites.

hello
you may want to try replacing the fan you have with one of the newer low noise fans that are available
very quiet

not quite as quiet
http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/std/sku=nexus120mm.html

these guys also offer an extremely quiet machine at a reasonable price

plus they also offer a Windows XP option

Have fun

Thanks Fat Cat - the Nexus looks like a good drop-in replacement.
