After some trials and errors, I've finally started to put together my first SAC rig. This is the 1st rack almost done, the "stage box". It has a Asus P5E Deluxe (http://usa.asus.com/products_print.aspx?l1=3&model=2219&modelmenu=2) with a Intel 8500 and a RME RayDAT to 3 ADA8000. I think thats enough to get started.

Next will be the WiFi to a IBM T61 and a Toshiba (unemployed so that freed up one of my laptops) also a P4 built into a case with dual LCDs (still on the drawing board) for FOH.

Everything for the remotes is being bought from surplus leasing companies so if a P4 dies $50 get me another.

Check my album for more pics as they get uploaded. (http://www.sawstudiouser.com/forums/album.php?u=681)

Thanks Bob, Good Stuff:D

This is the 1st rack almost done

Where did you find the 19" rack VESA Display support?

Thanks in advance.

Where did you find the 19" rack VESA Display support?

Thanks in advance.I bought the real thing (http://www.fullcompass.com/product/348731.html) ($63) and it was too deep into the top of the case and not wide enough to clear to display. So I bought a scratched blank U4 ($18) from a local music store and drill holes where the mounting screws go. Had to mount it close to the front to clear the lid. I'll get another and mount the wireless net (http://www.netgear.com/upload/product/wgr614/enus_standing-lores_product_wgr614.jpg) to it just above the LCD on the remaining rack rail.

Simple and cheap!:)

Thanks for posting the pics of your rig:D I love to see how someone else does it!

Now what I really want to see is the back of the rack - how is it wired? - what neat tricks have you done to keep things managable in there?

I have a problem in my rack with the darn ADA8000s having inputs on the front and outputs on the back - the only thing I can figure is to build a 1 space XLR panel to bring those outputs around to the front! I also put my ADA8000s in the rear of the rack since I have front and rear rails.

My rack mount computer is riding on Chassis Trax slides so it is supported both front and rear, and is easy to get into if necessary, it can just slide out, lock into place, and off comes the top.

I will post pictures of my rack when I can dig it out of the truck.

Now what I really want to see is the back of the rack - how is it wired? - what neat tricks have you done to keep things managable in there? Keeping it in this combo case was possible by using a shallow U4 case (17.5" deep) from PLinkUSA (http://www.plinkusa.net/web4210.htm) . At $56 +$15 for the PS, it's still one of the better deals.

I have a problem in my rack with the darn ADA8000s having inputs on the front and outputs on the back - the only thing I can figure is to build a 1 space XLR panel to bring those outputs around to the front! I plan to bring the outs UP to the top rails above the LCD.

I will post pictures of my rack when I can dig it out of the truck.

just dont let the stagehands at that non-shock mount rack... <g>I have a plan later that might be very interesting. That is to not use a PC case at all but to mount everything to a tray with vibration isolation mounts. (http://www.karman.com/plate1.cfm)

Where's my hack saw!:)

Here's a link to all the parts of the main SAC computer I'm building.

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=10078032

I chose that 4U case due to it only being 20" deep which should fit nice into most audio racks.

Solid state drives so that it can be bumped and banged around without worrying about hard drives getting mangled.

The SYBA mobile sata unit is also handy for quick removal and insertion of the 2.5" solid state disks in the event of a failure. $30 is a small price to pay to not have to yank the whole case out to remove and replace a failed drive.

That specific asus motherboard has on-board raid which will let me mirror the drives for an extra level of protection.

I also went with a dual vs quad core as I don't think SAC can really take advantage of quad core.

For the Canadians in the crowd, the link with Canadian prices is here:
