Hello,
I am from the Minneapolis area. I mix a pretty high energy country band exclusively. They insist on splitting the signal and running their own monitor board from the stage (in ears) so I only run the FOH. (for now)
This band is pretty simple to mix. They listen to me regarding stage volumes, they all have good gear and good tone, they play with good dynamics.
I have purchased SAC and am ready to start using it anytime but I'm waiting for a simple 4 night casino gig, in about a month because it's a pretty laid back gig.
My question is:
How are you all using scenes? How would they be helpful to me?

Don't flame me for asking a dumb question.
Thanks,
Gil

Scenes can be helpful in many ways.

If you are mixing the same band playing mostly the same songs over and over... you could setup a scene for each song that presets starting levels that may change depending on who is singing ld vocal, and so forth... then the scenes can be recalled at the start of each song.

You can also set scenes that raise the gtr for solos and then put it back for rythm... etc.

You could be using SAC alone to send FOH and Monitors without the need for a signal split... and the band members can even use remotes to control their monitor mixes during the show... in fact, they can even step thru the scenes themselves for each number.

Thanks Bob.
I intend to use SAC for monitors soon. Once they see the power that it has. I get that I could set up scenes for different songs and have levels preset. I haven't done that yet so I don't speak from experience, it just seems to me that it is probably quicker to simply raise and lower the faders. I am wondering if there are any other things that folks are doing that hasn't crossed my mind.
Bob, SAC is very exciting to work with. I haven't been this excited to try out a new thing in quite a while!
Thanks,
Gil

The scenes functions are very powerful and your friend. You can also use them to mute the board between sets and to mute effects between songs. You can select a scene and then just tap the space bar at the appropriate time to recall the scene.

That's great, thanks. I can see the value in that. It would be quicker to do a scene that to mute the vocal effects between songs.
Maybe mute all channels except break music.
Thanks,
Gil

To do mute operations you will, of course, need to make two scenes - one to mute and one to un-mute. You can use the partial scenes to just affect certain channels. You can also engage the latch through to monitors for your board mute and mute the house and monitors with one operation.

I use scenes as batch mute group states to set all the appropriate board muting like others have mentioned. I have a scene to fade bg music up and down since that's easier to get consistent than manually moving the fader (without having a motorized fader set). For a concert band I have, MC, Band Plays, Band Plays with Solo, and BG Only. They have a jazz band with 4 section/solo mics so I have scenes with the fader levels set for soloing on each of the section mics and a smooth fade time between them. You can now (thanks to Bob and 1.9) store different fx on Auxes and recall them as a song. It looks pretty much like if it's a parameter you can adjust on a channel, you can store it to a scene.

Hi Gil

I too am in the Minneapolis area and have about 8 shows on my SAC rig so far. Which band are you working with? I am the system tech at the what was the Black Dawg in Burnsville and will now be re-opening as McKracken's this weekend.

I may bring the SAC rig in Friday if they get a band scheduled. Saturday I'm at Fletchers outdoors, but the BE isn't comfortable with digital, so I'm bringing the Analogue rig. I may end up doing Saturday night with the SAC rig at McKracken's if I can swing both gigs. Drop me a line if you want to come out and check out the system.

Hi Hal,
I'm working with The Hillbilly Mafia. I'd love to see a SAC rig in action. Our schedule is pretty busy though. That's the part that bites about making good music, you don't have as much opportunity to watch other peoples good music. We're at the Original Famous Daves in Hayward, WI for their big birthday celebration this weekend.
Shoot me an email at mojogil@gmail.com and maybe we can hook up sometime.
Thanks,
Gil

Gil,
I have posted a lot, asked a lot of dumb questions. I've only been mildly flamed once, by Bob. OK, maybe more than once, and maybe for a good reason. But everyone else here is very nice, no flaming. Except maybe one or 2 people, and you'll know them when you find them!
