I've been mixing "The Hillbilly Mafia" (http://www.myspace.com/thehbm) with my LS9-32 for about four months. They insisted from the begginning on splitting the signal and mixing iem's and wedges from stage with their yamaha analog console. I've been spilling info a little at a time over the past few months about SAC as I got more familiar with it. They really had no interest in hearing about it. I let them know via email that I would be using SAC to mix the 3 night casino gig coming up (last weekend). I included several links to the website, forum threads, Harrah's link etc. After visiting the links, two of the main guys got so excited they stopped at wallmart on the way to the gig and bought netbooks.
Being that it was my first time, I only wanted to do FOH the first night. I had to use my LS9 as the I/O device because I haven't purchased a raydat yet (ada 8000's are racked, ready, and waiting). Honestly, they've never sounded better. The sound was obviously cleaner. The crowd was great all night.
The next day, I re-configured the setup so everything important was at side stage. I installed the remote on the two netbooks and hooked them up to the SAC network hardwired. I ran wireless from FOH. (I know that's not prefferred but I didn't have a long cat 5 cable). Three of us were in the club for about 3 hours setting up things and getting iem's ready. These guys were pumped to have so much control in their ears.
Night two and three were smashing successes! I got so many compliments. It was kinda wierd but I liked it. People know what sounds good to them!
The third iem guy has purchased a netbook and can't wait for the next gig (next Sat.).
Two guys are still on wedges and I'll mix them from FOH.

Just wanted to share my very exciting first SAC outing. Thanks everyone!

Amazing how the resistance starts to melt away real fast once they get to actually use and hear the difference.

Good job sliding them into it. :)

Great work and thanks for the info.

What wireless gear and remote software were you using?

Sony VGN-V210 laptop (duo 1.6) and a Belkin wireless g router. Main rack mounted desktop is a bastard quad core 2.4. The great thing is that I can also run yamaha's studio manager software and remotely control the preamp gain. The bad thing is that there is a little more latency due to the mixer and firewire. Iem's sound a little robotic if you know what I mean. They discovered that when they turn up the iems a little, it sounds better.

Meant to say Sony VGN-C210

How does one use the LS9 as an I/O device? I ask because we are moving into our new church building in 2 weeks. The LS9 is already bought and is being installed by the Sound Contractor this week. Unfortunately , I discovered SAC too late. I am planning to purchase SAC for my own rig but would love to see about using it for the Church. The LS9 might be a better choice for training new Sound personnell....We can always sell the LS9 .. or use it to mix for the Video / TV feeds (we have an 80+ bed Care facility attached to the Church. Each room has the ability for the resident to tune in to the service via a TV Channel...

Not sure if There's a better way, but the ADAT io cards would get all your channels out of the LS9.

I use 2 mLAN cards with my ls9-32. The Yamaha documentation says that they aren't supported but I can attest that they work great. The drivers are adequate but not great like RME stuff. I think adat would be better but at this time, I'd rather save my money for a Raydat card. Firewire works great when I mix witht he ls9 and want to record the show.

Jeffsco,
If you use the LS9 as an I/O device, you need to set channels 33-48 to direct out to the 16 outputs of the mixer. Channels 1-32 are your input channels. You need to direct out those channels to the mLAN bus.
SAC recognizes all 32 inputs and 32 outputs, but the mixer only has 16 physical outputs.
Note, all faders on the board are down since they are not needed.
Hope this helps,
Gil
