Corrupted plugin settings when moving between machines
Anyone know if there's a way around this?
I build a session in SAW on my laptop, then I move it to my desktop, having installed all the needed plugins, and I get this warning when trying to open the EDL:
[VST plugin] Has Corrupted Data Settings!
Please Reset Parameters For All Instances Of This Pugin In This EDL!
[Ok]
Why would the settings get corrupted? Aren't they just ones and zeroes in the EDL file?
Re: Corrupted plugin settings when moving between machines
Make sure the plugin name displayed in the FX choices list is the same on both machines... if they are different, the system sees them as different plugins and therefore the settings would be incompatible.

I think also that if the plugin settings you had were not specifically saved, that you can also get that corrupt data message. I could be wrong, of course, but I think that's been my experience.

Interesting. I could see that happening as I set up the FX INI pointer on each computer, not being aware of the need to have the INI name be identical from machine to machine. Thanks for the info.

How do you mean? You mean saving a SAW preset file of the plugin's setting via the RML triangle menu? I wouldn't think that would come into play.

That's what I mean, yeah. Maybe you're right, but if the last settings on the plugin weren't saved, then what's to keep them the same, when you switch to another machine and maybe even have to reinstall, or reregister the plugin?
That happens more than it ought to.

My understanding is that plugin settings save in the EDL file, and any saves to a separate file are just that: separate. I almost never save presets to files and I almost never have the problem I had moving between machines.
That would certainly be a good work-around, though.
Re: Corrupted plugin settings when moving between machines
I think the name mismatch is the issue, or the path is different. I recently built a new computer and rarely use the save user preset option. I have not been seeing these messages at all.
The other issue that I have seen is generational, in that a new version of a plugin with the same name no longer uses the old plugin file structure.

Yeah, I've seen that, too, I think, when trying to resurrect ancient projects, where, in theory, I have all the right plug-ins. I get that with the UAD stuff, sometimes.
I haven't fired up the laptop (from where I moved the session in question) to see if it's the plugin name difference that's the issue, but I'm betting that's it. I don't always pay close attention when naming my INI pointer files.

Speak of the devil..................................
I just finished changing to a new(er) pc and windows 10.
After installing SAW and getting everything in order, the only plugin issues I had were with the SAW Studio Reverb.
Nearly every session I opened had at least one reverb plugin with "corrupted settings" and when I clicked out of the warning, I was taken to the default preset all but one time, when it actually went back to the preset I had originally used.
I went to great pains to be sure that all my folders, drives, files, etc. were in the same relative place as they had been in the old pc. There are no name mismatches and no displaced files. I'm also still using SAW 32 bit, because I didn't want to risk messing anything up by introducing a 64 bit version before I was ready (both the old win7 and new win10 are 64 bit os).
Why is it that the SAW reverb kept coming up with corrupted settings? Can someone explain this to me?
