I may have been one of the guys that you heard saying that. I have run dual monitors from my Sandy Bridge chip without issue (both in "extra-wide desktop" mode and "cloned-desktop" mode. The whole dedicated video card thing seems like a case of the emperor's new clothes to me, but maybe I'm missing something. What I'm not missing: the extra cost, heat and noise.

What are your thoughts/opinions of ATI/AMD over NVidia.
I personally have had better success with ATI - and which are not as popular as NVidia to locate.
Also, I have heard that the Intel integrated drivers are just fine.
I appreciate any/all comments - especially real-life experiences.
I am considering Dell then Lenovo.
It all depends on what you plan on doing with the laptop. If its going to be a dedicated audio workstation for SAC/SAW, don't waste your money on a core i7 and you would be just fine with intel graphics.
If your doing other things like video or 3d work, than you will benefit from the increased CPU and GPU graphics power.

The dedicated video thing serves a real purpose, but it will depend entirely on what sort of work your doing.
I do video editing, and the GPU enabled/accelerated functions are invaluable, in reduced processing time.

You mean for "off-line" video rendering? Really? Never occurred to me.
