I'm enquiring about this interface for a friend using a laptop.
Does anyone here have any experience with this unit?
What low latency can she expect?
Thanks in advance.

I just installed one and was able to get down to 1 x 128... I would probably run it at 2 x 128... 64 samples did not work for me.
There is a high performance mode in the driver app that has to be checked for 64 sample access... but that mode stomped all over my laptop... perhaps more adjustments could get it to work at the 64 sample size.
But... I felt 128 was pretty good for usb.

Thanks for the info Bob - just what I needed.

what's your impresions of this unit Bob? It has reverb built in right? I just sold a fast track pro cause i have two digi 9652 cards, and i cant even fathom a use for the m audio anymore...but the improved version might be ok, if latency was within drunken discernable limits.....which i deal with night after night...
Anyone have any experience with the M-Audio Ultra8-R 8 channel rackmount USB-2 interface? That and a netbook would make a nice portable setup!
:)
I bought a Fast Track Ultra 8R to go with my Netbook. I thought it was rubbish so I took it back. The preamps were weak, and IIRC the headphone drive was weak. The latency wasn't great on the drivers either, but I can't remember what buffer sizes I got. I just remember being very uncomfortable about how much money I'd spent and the overall performance of it, so I returned it. - Just found my original post about it. It had a bad earth loop problem too.

For the money, I'd spend the little extra and get a decent Firewire unit that actually can do 62 buffers. The 2626 works with Ti chipsets, is a solidly built unit, has better preamps, has all kinds of routing and can be had for about $150 more. Money well spent. There's a Focusrite PRO40 that also reportedly works well, but I really like having all the mic inputs across the back instead of mixed front/back.
As others have said, I'm not sure I'd trust a USB unit besides the RME.
Well... firewire was not an option with the netbook... so... the M-Audio will have to do...
MOTU's new firewire/usb combination unit looks good also... but a few hundred dollars more.

I don't know. With all the problems that seemed to have crept into Firewire and Windows lately, I am starting to really have my doubts about Firewire audio on Windows. Especially if you want to run Win 7 or Vista.
Nothing concrete here mind you, just my gut reaction based on feedback on several forums and email lists.
