Lenovo T61 setup Questions
I have a Lenovo T61 Laptop with a 2.5 g and 2 gigs ram. I connected a Multiface1 cardbus. I did all of the XP Pro tweaks. When I play or sing thru SAC it sounds a garbled and low volumne. I can play thru Sgear amp sim and it sounds fine. Any suggestions on where to look?
Thanks
Easy
Re: Lenovo T61 setup Questions
Are you using the ASIO driver model in SAC... if not... try that.
What are your buffer settings?

Re: Lenovo T61 setup Questions
I have two T61 Thinkpads.1 as a backup with a Digiface and another as a remote. I did a clean install with no AV or firewall (for SAC network use only). Yes, check the ASIO selected in SAC. I'm at 64 X 2 w/24ch at 10-16%. No problems. Watch out with the Lenovo apps. That's why the clean install. If this is a Laptop you use at home, try a new user account at admin level and tweat it. This is what I did with Steve when he would borrow my T61 as a remote.
Is the Multiface new or used?
Hap

I haven't done a clean install. I still had firewall on. The Multiface and the T61 are both used. I had the Multeface installed on my tabletPC and sounding fine but could not get low enough buffer settings to trust in a Live setup. Hey Hap how do you get rid of the Lenovo apps? Easy

Yes and No.
I'd do a clean install.
I have a XP sp2 disk. Lenovo uses the image mounted in a hidden drive and will only reinstall all the stuff from date of purchase. You'll need a install disk and install code.
Go to Intel and do a drive search to get info of what drivers you have installed for the Intel processes. Next find out what drivers you need for all the other non-Intel devices. At Lenovo you can download drivers and mount them on a driver disk. This will be an important thing to do as a per-install step.
Lenovo will have a hidden drive that you could try a capture the space, but with SAC and the space that it and VST take is very minimal so you could leave it. But Format the drive so as to insure the correction of errors on the drive surface.
Rest is pretty straight forward. Only allow internet for XP authorization driver & firmware update then unplug and NEVER go out there again with that laptop.
When everything is to your liking, Image the drive!!! or BACKUP,BACKUP,BACKUP,BACKUP,BACKUP,BACKUP,BACKUP!! !!!!
Really!:)
Re: Lenovo T61 setup Questions
Thanks for your help Hap,
I did a format and clean install of XP3. I still get the same result. With another
program on the same computer that uses ASIO driver, everything sounds clear and clean. I recorded a small file of the guitar but I don't know how to post it so you could hear. Any ideas?
Thanks, Easy

Let try a test to eliminate any hardware issues like the seat in the card slot.
SS won't be used in the setup just SAC.
Here is the ASIO4ALL driver. Install this ASIO driver.
Unplug the RME devices from the Lenovo.
Open SAC and pick the ASIO4ALL and leave the samples and buffer at its default. In device setup pick the internal sound card (SoundMAX HD) also choice 4 buffers (512 sample).
Get an adapter and use the red input on the left. Output use some head phones.
Setup your 1st channel, no VST and go live. Yes, there will be latency but we're listening for sound quality.
If good, install RME. Re-start SAC. Choose the RME Driver. Setup ASIO to 512 X 4. Repeat test.
Your results?
Hap
Re: Lenovo T61 setup Questions
Hi Hap, I think I found most of the problems. I did eliminate cardbus issues.
In looking for Pcimica driver updates I found that it was a Bios issue. I updated the bios and now have good sound. I am having some dropped buffers, but I need to do bob's tweaks and see if that helps. Thanks for all your help it pointed me in the right direction.
