Don't know if this is relevant in this case but I recently had the same problem with a new install. Ditching the Matrox card for a cheap NVidia card solved the problem.

That did it! I went through the list and deleted all the fonts that had an earlier modification date than was on the location computer list and re-installed the more current fonts and I'm back!

Just renamed my original SS folder and did a fresh install and the font is the same as before. Too small to read. I don't know if it is relevant or not but I seem to recall this happened...
