    Re: OT: UPS question

In my extensive experience with many, many UPS's, at some point the circuitry just becomes unreliable, even with fresh batteries. Nowadays if a supposedly working UPS fails me just once during a...
  2. Re: If you were on a desert island with one reverb plugin, what would it be?

I've got a million of 'em, and it's a tough call that's also dependent on the style, but my reverb that gets the most use is Izotope (Exponential Audio) Symphony. It just sounds wonderful, is easy to...

    Re: O/T: Reverb Reduction.

I have to do this frequently in post production. I've tried them all, and still find Zynaptiq's Unveil to be the best. To minimize artifacts I generally find a combination of Unveil and SPL's...

Re: Favored mic types for kick drum

As mentioned, the drum itself and the type of sound you're looking for make a lot of difference. But for some 'rule of thumb' mic choices:

EV RE-20 for softer, flappier, double-headed jazz. You...
  5. Re: OT: Recommended On-line Disk Imaging Solution?

Ah, thanks, I didn't realize that had already been part of the process, but that certainly does make sense for a large, initial backup. I only heard the ad once so I may have misinterpreted the...
  6. Re: OT: Recommended On-line Disk Imaging Solution?

On this subject, I heard a radio ad this morning by Kim Commando for iDrive, where she said iDrive also offers an option to periodically send you a physical drive for backup, that you then send back...

Re: OT: Nashville Studio using SAW

We used to have some fairly big-time Nashville engineer on the forum, but that was very, very long ago and I can't remember his name now. I did find this guy online:

  9. Re: OT: UAD Lexicon 224 wet signal heavy on the right

Currently swamped but I'll try to give it a go later in the week. I'm curious as to whether the plugin previously worked fine for you and just started this behavior recently.
  10. Re: OT: UAD Lexicon 224 wet signal heavy on the right

Well...not using it in SS, but to confirm I just tried it in PT, and the return is balanced. However I do recall some online chatter years ago about the original Lexicon 224 actually being slightly...

    Re: SAWPro Question (!)

Absolutely. Not to mention that it's often for silly reasons, like the client just can't move on from a project done over 20 years ago and still thinks re-visiting it will somehow make it better. But...

    Re: SAWPro Question (!)

Well, everything seems to work perfectly as long as I open any EDL that was originally a SAWPro EDL in SAWPro first, clean it up and save it, then open it in SAWStudio and export the files en masse....

    Re: SAWPro Question (!)

And just as a followup I then imported this EDL into SAWStudio, and again everything is perfect along the timeline. I'm trying the exports again to see what happens when I pull them into Logic. Maybe...

    Re: SAWPro Question (!)

I've reloaded one of the offending EDL's in its original SAWPro format, and after cleaning up all the missing FX modules and resetting all the outputs to default, everything plays back properly and...

    Re: SAWPro Question (!)

Agreed, their customer service has always been nearly as great as Bob's. I haven't talked to them yet because I'm not totally convinced the problems don't lie in the original files or EDL's. If I can...

    Re: SAWPro Question (!)

I do still have it, but haven't installed it for quite awhile since they stopped supporting it and I got AATranslator. Did Proconvert have a way to directly convert from SAW to Logic? Might be worth...

    Re: SAWPro Question (!)

Oh, yeah, I was around for every incarnation of SAW, and yes, opening them in SS is exactly what I first did, and it was that process that produced the wonky files on any track that had gaps or...

    Re: SAWPro Question (!)

Thanks, Bob. Yeah, the solid wav files is what I'm looking for here. Not sure why the exports are getting scrambled in the converted SS EDL's. I'll try exporting them track by track from the original...

    SAWPro Question (!)

Sorry to interrupt the 64-bit SS mirth, but I'm trying to work with some ancient SAWPro projects to be exported for remixing in Logic Pro X at a client's studio, and I'm having a lot of squirelly...

    Re: Wav to uLaw conversion

I've had to do that once or twice as well, and it's always a little squirelly. I'm still on SF 10, but in the "Custom" options for wav files I still see 'CCITT' u-law and A-law in the 'Format'...
  22. Re: Burning Software to use with Cue Sheet Generated Images?

I never used CSG, but I've been using Hofa's CD Burn and DDP for several years now since most duplicators started preferring DDP over CD masters. Good program, and I do believe it will work with Cue...
  23. Re: OT mOTU 424 Win7 64 bit 64 bit compatibility

I've been using a 424/2408 mkII with SS in my location rig for years with total reliability until the computer recently died. While that was a 32-bit XP system, I've also used the same combo in...

Re: OT: Cluster Size in the 21st Century

Yep, I remember my first 1.2 GB SCSI hard disk: $1,500. And 32 meg of RAM for my EMU E IV: $1,500. But I have to say I've been surprised at how slowly the cost of SSD's has come down. Either they...

Re: OT: HOFA DDP Standalone App

Another Hofa user here. Pretty intuitive and flexible, and zero problems with any DDP's created with it.
