Bob, are you considering making SAC work with any of the new multitouch touchscreen monitors that are appearing instead of the ludicrously expensive 3M Microtouch one? Like this, for example:
...
If that happens (wireless goes down) I expect you'd just run over to the stage, plug the SAC remote laptop in with an Ethernet cable and reconnect to SAC. So long as SAC doesn't go mad in the...
It's not the cost of the monitor and keyboard that's the issue, it's location -- I'm planning to put the SAC PC into a small rack with the ADA8000s and (lightweight) power amps, and this will sit at...
Another couple of simple questions, but I can't find answers anywhere...
If you're using a FOH PC in the same rack as the A/D/A, can you configure this to run SAC at bootup headless (without a...
Can SAC using plugins like the dual Linkwitz-Riley do a multi-way crossover?
-- sub 30-120Hz
-- mid 120-2kHz
-- top 2kHz-20kHz
And can this be configured to all be driven by one FOH fader, or...
I'd say the Beyer DT770 Pro has better sound and isolation than the HD280 and is more comfortable -- opinions may differ :-)
No it doesn't -- "patent pending" means that a patent application has been submitted but hasn't been granted yet (and might never be if the examiner finds prior art).
If you make technical details...
Assuming you want a rack case that isn't intended for a server (probably more than 500mm deep) there are very few choices in the UK (I've looked extensively) -- X-Case have "short" 2U and 4U cases...
Having just a remote laptop at FOH leaves the problems of talkback (both directions), headphone monitor and CD/WAV/MP3 playing -- this really needs 2 audio channels in each direction, and I can't see...
Not if you want the main SAC computer at FOH, then you have to add $1000 for Audiorails, more $$$ for ADA8000/Audiorail racks and subsnakes on stage. In the UK the Brikworm solution is probably...
Brikworm has 4 (remote controllable) gain settings in 12dB steps, just intended for coarse control with fine level setting done at the digital mixer/SAC.
There are control bits in the ADAT data stream sent down the CAT5 cable and these are used by Brikworm -- this is what Chris Burrell told me:
ADAT carries 8 channels of 24 bit audio plus four...
Just to toss another grenade into the room...
Bob, have you thought about making SAC run under Linux?
Since the processing core is written in assembler this wouldn't change (just the compiler),...
I must have misunderstood, I thought that's what was said about the Brikworm. I guess the internal cabling probably carries the ADAT data wrapped up with some extra control channels.
Though I can...
That works up to a point, but mic preamps get noisier if the gain is reduced too far so there's a limit to how far down you can turn them before this becomes a problem for the smaller signal level...
I said that some people would do it, not that it was a good idea :)
Ian
Then people would plug 4 24" 1920x1200 monitors into a quad-head graphics setup so they could see all the channels at once in a 6-foot wide monitor wall... ;)
Ian
I was afraid that would be the case -- the problem is that until systems like SAC become more common everyone can devise their own system (and does) because it's all closed and proprietary. It's only...
Thanks for the warning, I was aware of both the wobbly Expresscard/34 and the hot-plugging issues -- the TI application note says that the problem can occur with out-of-spec connectors especially if...
So each channel is about 30 pixels wide?
I'm not thinking of small gain changes during a gig here, I'm thinking of recalling a scene when the channels have been used in the meantime for a completely different band where an input that was...
I'd thought of that, I certainly wasn't going to just use a 4-pin Firewire since these are really insecure -- and the 6-pin ones aren't much better...
With a rackmount PC there's no reason for it...
What resolution is your laptop screen?
-- I'm trying to work out what is needed to see all channels at once, does anybody know how wide a channel is, or what you can see simultaneously on...
Is there any way that SAC can be used to set remote preamp gain so that this is also saved/recalled as part of a scene?
(if yes, is there any standard control method/API for this?)
If not...
