Alt-left clicking a marked area

After Alt-left clicking a marked area on a renamed region, the newly created region gets the name of the region before I renamed it. Is this normal behavior?

it's a bit counter intuitive to me, shouldn't it use the new names instead?

To clarify, I use the rename function to rename different takes and then assemble these takes to a final version. Then, afterwards, it would be nice if I could see where all takes came from, in case of a revision.
