  1. Default OT: Internet Explorer get Hijacked

This is completely off track for this forum - but whenever I have posted out here I alays get good info. So I thought Id try.

I have a PC that McAfee tells me is virus free. But when I am on the web and I click on a link I get directed to some totally unrelated URL. e.g. I was just in my ebay account and clicked on check my messages and end up to a "you have won site"

    Its getting rather annoying.

    Any suggestions?

Try Spybot Search & Destroy or Asquared Free or use FireFox.

+1 for Firefox. Hackers don't bother with it. They focus on IE 'cuz it reaches the most people.

Firefox isnt' perfect, but it's much better.

Mark is dead on with regards to Firefox, I used it for a long time since having the same problems you are with IE.
I would cleanup your system then go with Firefox.

    Step 1: Download Firefox.

Step 2: Download Malwarebytes free malware removal tool. www.malwarebytes.org.

Step 3: Download Zone Alarm's free firewall from www.zonealarm.com. It'll come with a free, fully functioning 30-day trial of their entire internet security suite. By all means, take advantage of that.

Your problems are fixed, and it didn't cost you a dime! (FWIW, Zone Alarm's suite is very reasonably priced.)

I did this last year on the PC at home, and I haven't had an issue since.

I like HijackThis. Everyone is right about hackers pointing at IE - but, that said, IE is harder to hack then FireFox - so...

Thank you gentlemen for all the responses.

I was contemplating a new Drive for the OS on the system that got infected for a while - and the hijacking of IE was just the beginning of the virus.

So I am just going to call that system toast and start fresh.

    Thanks again.

Thanks for the tip. Marewarebytes found 3 malwares in 3 minutes. Actually scaring...
