    Default New SAC System Follow-up

Having finally finished and had a chance to use the new Core i5 System that I posted about earlier, I thought I'd post a follow-up for those that might be interested.

The finished weight of the 10u system was 115 pounds. So I reconfigured the system into an 8u case, removing the 2 space Drawer, Headphone Amp and UPS, which I moved into a separate rack.

The new 8u version dropped the weight to 84 lbs.. Not light, but at least managable.

I found a very nice keyboard with a built-in touchpad from Adesso.

I can operate everything from just the touchpad on the keyboard, but also added a wireless mouse with a USB receiver (logitech M510)

The final addition was the LG 21" LED HD display.

I had a problem with the built-in video not working at the proper resolution for the monitor until I realized I needed to load the Display Drivers for the Intel Graphics. Once loaded, all the proper display options for single/dual/mirrored became available.

For those wondering about the i3/i5 built-in graphics, they work very well.

The ASUS P7H55D-M EVO motherboard has built-in video support for the on-board i3/i5 graphics (HDMI / DVI / VGA) and can run any two ports simultaneously as independent/extended desktop displays.

Nice rig, thanks for the post. What model i5 have you got and what O/S are you using?

Fwiw, in my studio I just moved to an i5-650 in dual core mode with RME HDSP PCI card and Win 7 64bit. I use SAC with SAW and found that 2 x 128 works best.

    Yes.. XP.

    Sorry forgot to mention that.

For those wanting to see the rig build process see threads:

I decided to stay with XP for the time being, but always have the option of moving to win 7 in the future.

    Oh. yeah.. one more toy...

I forgot I picked up an Acer notebook for remote SAC control.

    $219 refurbished.

Intel Atom N450 Processor with 512K cache
    1 GB RAM
6-Cell Li-Ion Battery (supposed to get 8+ hrs)
    160GB HDD
    10.1" LED Display
    Win7 Starter

    I've already loaded SAC Remote.

I'm impressed with the brightness of the display.

Will get to try the remote out this weekend.

I'm still sorting out what I'm going to do with the left over parts, but very well may have an essentially new 10u case for sale.

what part of the world are you from? (I'm in California).
