Thread: AVCHD & SAW

  1. Default Re: AVCHD & SAW

THanks for all the assistance. I tried the Mainconcept directshow codec plugin and even it didn't work.

The Handycam is a Sony HDR-CX550V and I went back to th euser manual to find what I may be missing and I found it. This is a paragraph from the manual:
Playing back recorded images on other devices.
The camcorder is compatable with MPEG-4 AV/H2.64 High Profile for high definition image quality (HD) recording. THerefor you cannot play back images recorded with high definition image quality (HD) on the camcorder with the following devices.
-Other AVCHD format compatable devices which are NOT compatable with High Profile.

I didn't see this anywhere else in the manual but just a quick mention in the first few pagesSo there you have it NOT just AVCHD or H2.64 but "High Profile" so at least I know what area to fucus on now.
Bpb had said in one of his posts that: But... you must realize video has many many more things to learn about and control than audio ever did... so be prepared to have many different utility tools on hand to deal with whatever video formats may get thrown at you.

    Thanks Again

Maybe Sony make a codec pack for windows,
BTW. I have a funny story, at the theater I work I brought
a Sony NX5U, its the new nxcam format witch is a avchd with
a extention. Anyway we did some recordings and wanted to
open them in Sony Vegas version9, no way, Vegas could not
read the file...its a Sony. The strange part is that edius5.51
played this new format with no problem.
After a upgrade to vegas version 10 it works.

The best thing if you are going into video land is to buy
    a video editor.

    We have Premiere cs5, vegas10, edius6, finalcut6(mac).
personly I use edius for everything, I know it is not so reconiced
as the other programs, but it is a very solid software with hand written
efx algoritmer, and there codecs are very solid and support native color space for almost all codecs if not all.
It is also the only editor with dvd and bluray burning directly from timeline,
with surround sound, this alone is a ubeliveble time saver.
As nice ekstras there is the Mercalli V2 antishake plugin and the vitascene
    efx and transitions.

Go and download the demo, it is working for one month with no limitation.
I know most people will tell you to choose one of the other products,
but in most cases they have not tryed edius and they don't know how easy it can be to work with video.
