Thread: AA Translator

    Default AA Translator

Has anyone tried the SAWStudio beta?
We have what appears to be a Nuendo session that we need to get into.

If this doesn't work out, surely someone here has Nuendo and can consolidate the tracks for you.

Cool stuff! - I had never heard of it before but seems it should provide a much more affordable alternative to the SSL Pro Convert (formerly Cuibono Soft EDL Convert) - http://www.aatranslator.com.au/

Seems the upcoming SAWStudio functionality is limited to import only - but still that would help a good bit if you were wanting to load sessions originating from a number of other DAW's on a regular basis.
At $159 vs. $599 for the SSL Pro Convert if this in fact works seems to be a decent deal.

    Best regards,

I have recently been in touch with Michael at AATranslator and I sent him a test EDL to convert to something else. I have not been able to test it yet.

The current functionality they are about to release is Import only (for them meaning they can import the SAW info and convert to other platforms.)

Is this what you want? You can contact them at info@aatranslator.com.au

Michael has been EXTREMELY helpful and responsive (he is in Australia though so there is quite a time difference.)

I have also been in touch with Michael at AATranslator, and at this point the conversions to and from SAW are not implemented. He is working on it, and a message to him regarding your need would be good indeed-- perhaps it will focus their attention to SAW a bit more. I've tried to help them as much as I can with sending and checking edls, but can't spend much time on it lately... I really think you should send him an e-mail.

I probably will contact them. But I'm not sure they'd be able to help in this situation anyway. Looking at their site I don't see the file extension we have for Nuendo listed.

You can open a Nuendo Project in Cubase too (depends on the version). When opening it with Cubase, Cubase will search for a .cpr file extension. Just choose "see all files" and choose the .npr extension (which is the Nuendo extension file). Cubase will open it as a Cubase project.
If everything fails, I could render the Nuendo session in plain wave files for you.

    Best wishes

I could render Nuendo to *wav as well.

While AATranslator doesn't open the native Nuendo session (npr) it will read a number of formats that Nuendo will export (eg OMF, XML, ADL, OpenTL).

However we have only just finished our SAW import function (ie read SAW EDLs and convert to other formats) and are literally days away from a release (although some have already obtained the pre-release version).

If we get enough interest we will give more priority to the SAW EDL export function ie bump it up the list.

    Thanks for the offers, guys.

We are going to follow some avenues locally. If they don't workout, I'll let you all know.

Runaway, it is too bad you don't support the .npr format. We could have worked with some of the other export files, but they were not available.
