Default WAY OT: HTML Editor - Web Site builder

So I figure this place has some of the most savvy users around that I know of...

I am looking to get a decent web site builder software. I used to use Front Page for years and that worked well for me as it was just like working in Word and you didn't need to know jack about HTML but it still did things like let you build a navigation bar by dragging and dropping pages around in a flow chart like way....

I know the hard core coders hated it because it liked to leave a lot of gruel laying around on the site... but it was great for me.

Right now I've been using a freebie I found online which works OK, but it doesn't help you organize your web site in anyway. It's basically nothing more than an gui based html editor, which frankly I could probably do just as well in MS Word or Open Office.

Any suggestions for someone like me that just wants a modest but clean personal web site?

Something that doesn't cost your first born would be nice.

    Thanks in advance.

    Richard,
I like Xara Web Designer. Not overly pricey. Sorry that I can't get the link here for you, but that goes to show you the Xara is pretty easy to use. LOL

Sounds like you'd be better off with using WordPress or a similar CMS system where you don't need to know HTML, you can drop in templates, modify a few things and you're off to the races.

+1 I've been using Wordpress for a few clients and we're very happy. It's one of the best ways to build a site these days. If you need a more powerful CMS I'd suggest Joomla. For most needs Wordpress is nice. Easy and simple.

Did you forget that WordPress and Joomla are also free and open source?

Drupal is nice but it's admin interface is a royal mess. WordPress is probably the easiest one to get up and running in the least amount of time.

Drupal and Joomla are both very good. Drupal is perhaps more robust but takes a little more work to figure out. Joomla is fairly easy to manage.

    I built funkyfresh.com using Joomla.

If you're new to this, it's very handy to have a webhost that uses something like Simple Scripts to automate the installation process.

    Best and Good luck
