    Default mp4 ?

I have a project that requests a final mix to mp4. I don't anything about the encoders out there and I'll need to finish it off next week.

    Any suggestions?

    Merry Christmas everyone!

    Merry Christmas to you also!!

db Poweramp is my recommendation. http://www.dbpoweramp.com/
There are also a bunch of free online convertors if you do a google search.

Foobar is a free download that has an add on for encoding mp4's.

    Scott,

If you have Quick Time Pro, you can export your file as an MP4.

Thanks everyone. I'll take a look at these.

I don't use ITunes, so I don't know much about it, though I know it can't be difficult. I'm more comfortable with a dedicated encoder like LACE.

    Happy New Year!

From a quality standpoint, which is a better format, mp3 or mp4, or does it matter?

edit: Also, using either mp3 or m4a I am losing a lot of "fullness" especially in the lower midrange and bass. Any hints on how to best counter this?

    Thanks,
    S

Apples to apples, I don't know which sounds better. But isn't mp4 meant for video and not audio only?

RE: loss of 'fullness'... have you tried increasing your data rate on the encoding?

MPEG-4 Part 14 or MP4 (formally ISO/IEC 14496-14:2003) is a multimedia container format standard specified as a part of MPEG-4. It is most commonly used to store digital video and digital audio streams, especially those defined by MPEG, but can also be used to store other data such as subtitles and still images. Like most modern container formats, MPEG-4 Part 14 allows streaming over the Internet. A separate hint track is used to include streaming information in the file. The only official filename extension for MPEG-4 Part 14 files is .mp4.
Some devices advertised as "MP4 Players" are simply MP3 Players that also play AMV video or some other video format, and do not necessarily play the MPEG-4 part 14 format.[
