I really like the idea of the MOTU: PCI+2408, allowing modular expansion without the need of extra PCI (or PCIe) slots; one audiowire to each bank of 32ch. is nice. The RME Digiface is nicer since it allow you to run the same interface on the laptop.

Actually, I have a one slot magma chassis that I use a Motu 424 card in and a PCMCIA adapter to my laptop. I haven't sprung for SAC yet but Im getting good results with Cubase 5, 2 2408 MKIIs and 5 ADA8000s at 128 samples with EQ on all tracks and comp/gate on a few. I'm sure I'll get even better performance when I get SAC.

are you referring to PCIe->PCMCIA (Express card) adapter?

So to add multiple cards you would need multiple pci express slots. But you can always add a HDSP 9652 which is regular pic with no problems.
It's pretty simple to find ATX mobos with multiple PCIe slots these days. I've seen as many as 7 on one mobo.

I'm actually not worried about the lack of pci-e slots. With the 9632, 9652, I can get multiple Pci cards for the price of one raydat.

It's up to 24 I/O channels per Audiowire cable/rack mount box. Not 32.

You are correct, sir. I think I was imagining about two motu 2408 and three preamp to make 32ch, from Andy Hamm's post on another thread. LOL.

    3 - 8 channel preamps makes 24 channels.

I'm not sure what he is using the 2nd 2408 unit in those racks for.

Anyway, I use 2 - 2408 MKIII units. With 2 preamps into each unit, I get 32 mic inputs, and then I have a total of 16 line level inputs on the 2408 MKIII units, which work well for wireless mics, keyboards and other electronic instruments that have balanced line level outputs.
