Using SAC as the front-end for a recording session in a studio really does not require any control surface... just use it virtual with the SACLink on the same machine with the mouse... try the demo and see how it works out for you before purchasing.

For live band tracking sessions the multiple mixers are great... for overdub sessions, you can get away with a single stereo mix playback from a SAWStudio Output track linked and passed thru to each monitor mixer, along with the new overdub signal.

I had thought that, for a given session, you could either play from SAW through SAC, or record to SAW from SAC, but not both at the same time. Was I wrong?

    Yes, that was wrong, Cary.
You can indeed link SAW to SAC, playback tracks in SAW, while simultaneously recording new tracks through SAC.

    Angie,
Would you be willing to post your starting point mix template? That would help those of us who would like to lose our big mix boards...

    TIA

It is a little different than the way I described it in the post. I ended up moving the live input assigns to the last 24 channels. They are the colored channels. It was just easier for me. I use f-keys to toggle between the live channels and the playback channels.
