Here's a follow up with a few more impressions of the ADA8200 since I used the replacement unit at two shows last weekend. It sounds *better* than the 8000. I haven't measured or done a true blind test, I just know that me and my singer both commented on how much better the mix sounded - it was clearer. I've been playing here with headphones and a mic and it does sound clearer to me. Not that the 8000 sounded bad, the 8200 just sounds better.

Also, as far as noise on the upper end of the preamp gain control, yes, it still has noise when it's cranked up past 4 o'clock. It performed identical to the 8000 in that respect. In fact, gain settings from the 8000 translate to the 8200. It also does run significantly cooler than the 8000's.

    Hope this info helps.

Craig....did the ADA8200 come with a schematic? I contacted Rolf from Appsys ADAT extenders and Remote gain controllers....asking about whether the new 8200 could be retrofitted as per the 8000 to allow for Remote control of the trim pots. I suppose he'd need to know the Resistance value of the Trm pot . Any thoughts there?

Well, this is a question for Al Walker. We'd to know if the gain setting on the ADA8200 is done the same way (mono pot used as varibale resistor) as in the ADA8000 (and most of all mic-pres I know). Furthermore the value and the charactaristic of the pot would be nice to know.

My main interest in the ADA8200 was because the auto-mute "feature" in the later ADA8000 units was a problem with SAW. Has this "feature" been removed/corrected in the ADA8200?

I run the ADA8000 converters at 100 volts so the power supply heat issue no longer seems to be a problem.

I don't know. I'll have to remember to turn off the dither option tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks. This is an important consideration in my purchasing ADA8200 converters.

Thanks for the helpful info Craig! Lets hear about the auto-mute 'feature' now...
