    Default Retro Build?

For the fun of it lets put together a Retro WinXP build with the fastest Single CPU/4gb Ram. At their peak what Motherboard / CPU and Ram were the fastest blowing away everything? When it's all done I am going to do some heavy testing to see what it can do and just know there is enough old hardware out there to last 10-15 years easy but it's good to know you can run SAW on Win8 with no problems.

Here is what I bought and what it cost.

MotherBoard will be Intel DQ965GF MicroATX...$38 free shipping... used Ebay

Intel P4 3.6 CPU-661 Fan came with motherboard... 4 of them for $31...free shipping Ebay

    Memory will be Patriot 4GB DDR2 800 $46 with shipping...Brand New. Ebay

    Own XP Pro

New case $24.95 free shipping Ebay via NewEgg

New 400 Watt PS $14.95 Tiger Direct local store

    CD/DVD Player/RW/R had laying around

    I had 2 HD's a 80 SATA 7,200 / 160 ATA 7,200 laying around.

    Total $154.90

One smokin fast retro build to run SAW/MWS on, it will be interesting to see what it can do.

No just SawStudio, I want to go back in time and get the most smoking fast single core cpu system with 4gb ram and XP. I will then start making new videos, I think it would be cool and show people that you really don't need so much smoking hardware with SAW.

Ok the CPU will be the Intel Cedar Mill 661 3.6GHZ it was the last of the P4's but the die was shrunk to 65nm this cut the heat down a lot and this will be nice with the fan-less build. A lot of 4 of them for $31

MotherBoard will be Intel DQ965GF MicroATX...$38 free shipping...Used
Comes with built in FireWire for my Mackie 1220i

    Memory will be Patriot 4GB DDR2 800 $46 with shipping...Brand New

    Own XP Pro

    Total so far $115

Geeze, I was about to tell you to get a job or something, but this is starting to look interesting. You may be building a SAW monster for under $500.

I'd say go with an Intel E8700 Core 2 Duo - 3.5 GHz. Might be hard to find - but an E8600 seems to be readily available - 3.3GHz.

I can always put a fast dual CPU in the MB but the whole thing is I wanted to build it around a single core P4 and the Cedar Mill was the best and last of them.

Anyone ever watch this video of Bob showing SAW on his notebook with a 1GB CPU and 512MB of ram?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZTFe9FmEZ0

My system is going to blow that away times infinity....this is just too fun and I am hoping to enlighten people to a truth.....Humans think they need more then they do most of the time

Under $500....most defiantly, the CPU will be free after I sell 2 of them back on ebay! Keep one just in case

Researching fan-less Micro ATX cases today, I want to go 100% fan-less if I can.
