    Unhappy STUCk ON Midi Notes

Any idea why i might be getting Stuck on midi notes using MWS? If i stop playback half way through a song sometimes im getting notes ringing on forever, if i let the song finish, never a stuck note... tried short midi message option, no difference.... Using Virtual midi patching .. Ideas??

Sounds like maybe MWS isn't sending an all notes off command when you stop the transport?

Tried 4 other midi files/songs, they all do the same thing.. Stuck notes.. YES, not sending midi offs.... I remember running into this years ago... My fix at that time was to use a real Midi OUT back into a real MIDI in.... Bob, any Ideas?

Carey... make sure the midi keyboard that you use to record the midi is not outputting on multiple or all midi chans at the same time... it should be set to a single chan... if multiple notes of different midi chans end up on one track at the same start times, you may run into issues like this.... I think we did see this behaviour before with your setup.

Each midi track in MWS wants to see one note on/off for each note... it ignores midi chan info because it uses the track midi port and chan info to override the actual midi note chan data...

If the keyboard is outputting to multiple midi chans at the same time, you may be ending up with multiple same notes on top of each other and invisible on the display... this could cause midi note offs for that note to be ignored.

I was hoping that it was a simple "configuration thing" and that the article might be of help in tracing the source of the problem.

    Hello,

Just for interest...have you tried "tapping" the sustain pedal.

I have come across this a number of times if I stop in the middle of a MIDI track that the sustain pedal MIDI command is still in the down position - and just by tapping, it sends a Ctrl-64 command to stop the sustained notes.

    Maybe worth a try?

PS: If you enable the Display in MWS - you can see where the Ctrl-64 commands sit.
