Babyface vs Lynxtwo

Good morning everybody!

I was wondering if any of you have tried a babyface by RME. I have a desktop unit with 2 lynxtwo cards in there, and I was thinking of going mobile and ditching my whole desktop setup.

If any of you had a chance to compare these two in terms of driver stability, conversion, and performance, I'd love to hear your opinions!

It has been rock solid for me, it has been used together
with sac for live shows at 1/64 buffer.
and a lot of recordings.
Its a very well thought out product with a nice
big volume button.
using adat port for high end ad or da converter.

Its always in my back.

I had a Babyface and thought the mic pres were too noisy above about +45dB - there was a sudden increase in hiss at that point. The drivers were rock solid, as you'd expect. The breakout cable was an irritation.
It was the last RME interface I've owned - I got fed up with TotalMix's complexity.

If I were to buy another 2in/2out interface for PC, it would be a SoundDevices USBPre2. Lots of real controls. The Babyface has the advantage of ADAT in/out though.

Headphone output on the Babyface was also a little weak for tracking anything loud, in my opinion.

Instead of forking out the cash for the RME, I decided to hold onto my lynx cards, and supplement with a Focusrite Forte for my laptop. I got it used for $300, and I have to say, WOW!

I have the lynx two coupled with an ISA ONE, and this Forte and its preamps sound just as good. I can't tell the difference in sound quality. Interfaces have really come a long way now.

WOW 1/64 - that's amazing. Is that on a laptop?
I just bought a 2nd hand Babyface and can only manage 264 on an oldish Toshiba Core I5.

Update to this.
After playing around with settings and having no luck - I finally made it to SS - Force Realtime Priority Class.
Wow - running and recording now on 4/64 and no hiccups at all.
Awesome. I'm now VERY pleased with my new RME Babyface. Love it.

If you are running Win10 MAKE SURE to set the desktop icon or the actual .exe files for the program to Run As Administrator... it boosts the priority levels x 2 and gives the accurate priorities.

Bob, Just out of curiosity, does this propagate to plugins?
