Using F Keys in Windows 8

sorry i didn't read all the responses, but i bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop that defaults to needing the FN key to go with the F keys, and the other functions default to a one key hit. i guess they thought it was clever, but it's really quite a pain. Lots of forums are dealing with this same problem.
it's switchable though.


Copy/pasted from another forum- you might need to adapt to your system:

(0) Save all your open documents and stuff and close their respective program
(1) Navigate to the following directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Toshiba\System Setting
(2) Double-click on the "System Settings.exe"
(3) Scroll down in the left menu until you find "keyboard"
(4) Click on the "keyboard" menu option and change the default "special function mode" to "normal f1-f12"
(5) Click the "apply" button and allow your computer to restart.
