Default OT: RME HDSP 9652 versus RME HDSPE RayDAT

    Hello,

Someone locally is offering an RME HDSPE RayDAT at $825 CDN and is in new condition.

    So, two questions:

Q1: Is there enough of a difference between the HDSP 9652 and HDSPE RayDAT to warrant an upgrade?

Q2: Is this a good deal?
PS: L&M Has a new HDSPE RayDAT for $995.00 plus taxes.

    Thanks to all who respond.

You could get a second 9652 and save some money if you have the room.

I had a RayDAT and was a nice small package for the newer MB but for my Aphex 188's I needed to add the word clock card. $$$
If you have the ADA8000 or ADA8200, the RayDAT would be great.

Price wise. 633 in USD (825 CDN) ain't too bad.

I have both, as well as a Digiface . I use the Raydat in my SAC 32 channel system. I use the Digiface with a Laptop for a small compact 24 channel system and I use the 9652 in a Win7 SAW machine. All work great. I'm running 1x64 with all cards.
    -SAC,SAWStudioLite,Midi Workshop,SATLive, Reaper
-SAC Host (24 channel): Various Laptops via Digiface into APPSYS Adat extenders into (3) ADA8000,(2) BCF2000 controllers, 1x64 resolution
    -SAC Host (32 Channel): Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0Ghz , 4 Gig DDR/800mz RAM, ASUS PK5PL-CM MotherBd,XP Pro SP3, RME Raydat, (4) ADA8000's

    Hello,

    What a great forum!!

Thanks a bunch for all of the replies.

I have decided to keep the existing 9652 - as it has done wonderfully well thus far.

The 9652 is a great card.
I've been using it for about 12 years.
The only thing to remember is that RME doesn't offer drivers for Windows 8 & above so as long as Windows 7 is around you are fine.
If you find the need to move up to Windows 8 or 10 you would need a RayDat card.

    Tim,

If you find the need to move up to Windows 8 or 10 you would need a RayDat card.
....For interest, I was able to use the WIN7 drivers for a WIN10 test installation that I did a few weeks back. Installed with no issues.

Not sure why you say this, there are HDSP drivers for win8, and win10

    (Windows XP SP2 / 8 / 10 32/64 bit. Supports ALL HDSP and HDSPe cards/systems!)

Yes when I was building a new machine in 2015 there weren't any win 8 drivers.
I emailed them and was told that there wasn't going to be any drivers for anything above win 7.
If there are then obviously they changed their minds. In that case it's a good thing because the 9652 is a great card.
