    Default OT: Arria Live

    Hello,

Anyone heard of this?: Arria Live Media, Inc.

"With Arria.Live technology, say goodbye to the central mixer. All of the smarts and all of the mixing happen out in the endpoints (microphones, DI***8217;s and Speaker Outs). The Arria.Live Controller app provides an intuitive and engaging way to control these smart devices directly. As you connect the various devices, they just pop onto the controller screen with their assigned names and settings intact."

"Q: What makes you any better than the other mix-via-iPad solutions from companies like Behringer, Mackie, QSC, Soundcraft, etc.?
A: All of these other alternatives still rely on a complex central mixer. Arria.Live systems do not. This eliminates the complexity of channel mapping and signal routing making setup and operation far simpler. Also, the Arria.Live control app presents only the devices that are actually connected, thereby further reducing clutter and complexity.

    Interesting. My initial thoughts:

You have to buy into their proprietary hardware for everything, at least for now. Do the mics and speakers sound good? Do they have a variety of types for different applications? How good are their processing algorithms (EQ/compression/reverb, etc.)? The old-paradigm mixer is gone, but now every transducer has to have a microprocessor and an ADC or a DAC, so one wonders about the cost.

What about busing? Can you put an FX chain across a virtual mix bus? If so, where is that processed if there's no central processor? Or can that be somehow emulated virtually with this de-centralized approach?

Mostly the proprietary thing, though. Definitely better for non-pro users than finicky sound guys.

They mention that this is ideally suited for setups where there is a lack of trained volunteers or even a onsite sound tech.

The idea that the GUI is separate from the main system, therefore a GUI crash would not bring down the system...is similar to the AMP live mixing setup that some of us SAC and ex-SAC users are Beta testing.

I'd like to know what the cost and performance specs of this system are...
    -SAC,SAWStudioLite,Midi Workshop,SATLive, Reaper
-SAC Host (24 channel): Various Laptops via Digiface into APPSYS Adat extenders into (3) ADA8000,(2) BCF2000 controllers, 1x64 resolution
    -SAC Host (32 Channel): Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0Ghz , 4 Gig DDR/800mz RAM, ASUS PK5PL-CM MotherBd,XP Pro SP3, RME Raydat, (4) ADA8000's
-SAC Remote: Various Tablets via AMPED Router
-SAW Host : Asus Laptop, i7 12g RAM

    ...See here...

    Arria.Live Speaker Out
    * Internal 32 channel mix engine produces a speaker-specific mix
    * Transforms Arria.Live networked audio to a balanced analog XLR output; ready to drive a powered speaker or an amplifier channel
    * Analog pass-thru feature allows Arria.Live systems to run in parallel with legacy systems
    * Controlled via the free Arria.Live Controller App
    * POE-powered, accepts either standard RJ45 or EtherCon cables
