New battery replaced into a new CR2032 socket soldered onto the circuit board... seems to be holding fine now when powered off and on.

Its not a 10 year limit, it means the battery will still have 90% of its rated charge after 10 years.
I've got three Alexis QS synths a 6.1, 7.1 and 8.2, all of which are still going strong. I don't know the actual dates of manufacture but the 6.1 and 7.1 were released in 1998 so that makes both units potentially 20+ years old.
Granted its likely time to replace the batteries in all of my QS Synths and yes, I'll probably put in a battery holder.
