52 channels, Craig? I've never heard of combining in and out channels like that in a "spec."

That's how RME advertised it, Dave.

Seems to me it used to be common practice.

Unfortunately, I'm seeing it more and more. You really have to study the specs to see what you are really getting.

Crazy. I guess I missed that. I'm further surprised by RME's page, especially because it even says 96 KHz right after it, which is definitely not doable on 52 channels at a time on the Digiface. Seems misleading, but I guess if you know what to look for...

I've been out of the market for this stuff for so long, I've probably forgotten a lot about the way things are done with the marketing, etc.

    Caveat emptor, as they say.

Yeah RME has always done it that way and I agree it's very misleading. But perhaps from a Geman perspective that is normal and us english speakers are doing it wrong?

What gets really confusing is when the number of I/O to and from software is different than the hardware I/O on the device. If you want to make your head hurt do a deep dive on the MOTU AVB stuff. Unit A might have 16x8 I/O but allow for 32x32 to/from software via ASIO (because you might have other I/O sitting on the AVB network but then Unit B may only be an 8x8 device but it will allow for 64x64 via ASIO. I just made those numbers up and they don't match any particular piece of their AVB units. But you get the idea. It's been interesting trying to plan a full networked system of I/O and then making sure I have the correct unit that will actually connect to the computer via USB so I can actually get audio to and from all those points.

All specs were taken directly from the RME website.

The Digifaces are still available, if interested. I no longer frequent this board, so PM would be the best way to ask me a question.
